John Charlton joins International Greetings
Former chief executive at UK Greetings, John Charlton, has been appointed non-executive director to the plc board of International Greetings.
"Since I retired from UKG I've been focusing on my role as executive chairman of South Africa Greetings and talking to various people," said Charlton (right). "I've known the guys at IG for years and the business has been going through a lot of restructuring but they are doing all the right things. It's going to be an exciting time."
Commenting on Charlton's appointment, Paul Fineman, Chief Executive Officer said: "We are delighted to welcome John to the Board. John's management experience, combined with his extensive knowledge of the greetings card and giftware markets, will be invaluable in helping the company fulfil its potential in the coming months and years."
Charlton joins IG at a time when the greetings card, giftwrap, crackers, stationery and accessories manufacturer has been undergoing a restructuring of the business.
In its recent trading update, before going into its close period for the year ended 31 March, 2010, IG announced: "Both sales and profitability were in line with market expectations and management have positively addressed net debt and at £48.8m this shows a £19.7m (29%) improvement compared to March, 2009.
Commenting on the Group’s performance in the period, Paul Fineman, added: “We have restructured and reorganised our business, and we continue to make good progress across the operations. We have returned to profit, significantly reduced debt and put in place a strategy to deliver profitable growth. We are encouraged and positive about the Group’s future prospects.
It is anticipated that Full year results will be announced at the end of June.
