Sherwood takes Printweek award

The Sherwood Press has been named as Social Stationery Printer of the Year in the annual Printweek Awards.
Sherwood's Richard Bacon, picked was presented with the accolade by TV presenter, Hugh Dennis at the Printweek awards night (see right).
What the Judges said:
Trust is critical to any client/supplier relationship, so when designer Sally Swannell commissioned the company to produce an advent calendar and simply said ''you are the experts, can you make this work'' it spoke volumes in terms of why Sherwood was chosen to produce the job and, equally, why it was the clear winner in this category. Judges were impressed with the 3D house advent calendar, which evolved from a 3D CAD layout. By using Artios CAD software, a profile was created and 'whitepaper' samples produced for customer approval. The calendar was printed four-colour both sides on Sherwood's Komori Lithrone 40 B1 press on to Clandon Feltmark 280gsm. Produced on one flat sheet, the piece was therefore suitable for posting. Finally, the flat B1 sheets were die cut in-house on the company's Sanwa 1060E and glued as required.
Sherwood Press confirmed its place at the top of the stationery pile for 2010 by also submitting a sample of a greetings card it produced for
The Lynn Tait Gallery. The company produced 24,000 cards across 12 designs for the fine art and photographic publisher, all of which were produced on its Komori Lithrone S40P six-colour press. Printed on 270gsm Accent Callisto Soft White Enhanced Silk Linen, using Stehlin Hostag inks, the company achieved an improved colour gamut using stochastic screening. The PrintWeek judges highlighted the ''very impressive colour printing on uncoated material using stochastic screening to give outstanding vibrancy''.
