Stationery buyer set for top post

New GA chairman picks retailer Henri as deputy in historic move

STATIONERY buyer Henri Davis has been selected as the next vice-chairman of the Giftware Association, meaning she will then become the first retailer chairman.

Ravensden director Michael Papé takes over the GA’s top spot in June and made the historic decision to ask the National Trust’s Henri to be his deputy.
“I was absolutely blown away when Michael asked me if I would take on the role,” she said, “It’s a huge responsibility given the challenging trading times we all face, but I’m excited by the opportunity and feel very honoured to have been asked.”
“I’m delighted Henri has agreed to become my vice-chairman,” Michael said, “she’s a highly respected figure in the retail industry and will bring a new perspective to the work of the GA.”
Having entered retailing as a graduate trainee with Habitat, Henri worked to George Davies at Next, and spent 13 years at WH Smith where she established her reputation as a stationery expert before moving to the National Trust as well as continuing to run her own retail consultancy.
In other GA news, their exclusive product gallery Inspire is now live on the association’s website and they are also launching their own occasions-led virtual showrooms, which go live on Friday.
A wide range of supplier members have uploaded more than 250 products to Inspire, and over 70 have been uploaded to the first two virtual showrooms, giving gift and greetings retailers easy access to the latest items.
Inspire is a year-round gallery, while the first two virtual showrooms cover Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day ranges and will be live for at least two months, then the next will have an Easter theme.
Only GA members are entitled to feature products, while retailer members will have the chance to look first before the showrooms are opened to all.
The GA have also extended their trade shows’ voucher scheme with a choice of packages featuring at Spring Fair, Harrogate Home&Gift and Autumn Fair where suppliers can sign up for individual events or go for the cheaper all-three option.
Chief executive Isabel Martinson said: “This is a fantastic scheme for our supplier members whose special offers are attracting new customers, and for our retailers it’s a very real benefit not enjoyed by non-members.
