Future movers and shakers revealed

Manchester show names 30 top young professionals and 6 winning companies

THIRTY up-and-coming industry names and six winning companies have been revealed as the build-up to the first-ever Manchester Stationery Show continues apace.

Show organisers Ocean Media believe the key to the stationery industry’s future lies with the next generation of young professionals – and their brand-new Thirty Under 30 awards initiative is designed to acknowledge these young movers and shakers.
Set up to identify and acknowledge the talent from across the breadth of the industry, nominations for the awards came in over the summer, with judges Mark Janson-Smith, MD of independent retailers Postmark; Ruth Burgess, senior stationery buyer of B&M Retail; Wendy Vickery, Pentel marketing manager, and Julia Faiers, editor of Stationery Matters had the task of choosing a selection of Stand Out entries from the final 30 (listed below) and to describe why they had chosen them.
Details of all 30 nominees will be on display at the show with the Stand Out candidates will be revealed at the after-show party, on the first day of the event which runs on Tuesday and Wednesday, October 31-November 1, at the Victoria Warehouse in Old Trafford.
Chosen by judges Paul Walker and Fred Aldous, joint MDs and stationery buyers for Fred Aldous; Marple Stationery Supplies owner Sarah Laker; Silk Hat Greetings owner Nigel Anderson, and Helen Riley-Ditchfield, designer for Widdop And Co, the six LaunchPad winners (listed below) have been given the chance to take part in the show and benefit from extensive marketing and PR support.
The judging event was hosted at the 130-year-old Fred Aldous store in Manchester in the classroom used to run regular craft and stationery workshops for customers.
As well as getting their products in front of a team of influential judges, the special display area allows the winners to present their ideas and designs to leading retailers and suppliers.
