Winners revealed at the National Calendar Awards

The Apprentice finalist, Ruth Badger gave a rousing speech at the 2012 National Calendar Awards  which celebrated the best products and a successful year for the calendar industry.

The industry event, cited to be one of the best yet, took place in the historic venue of the Stationers Hall, near St Paul’s Cathedral in London. Supported by a record number of sponsors in the publishing and print industry, the evening was compered by Gary Beck of the Calendar Club, with a welcome from Nigel Stapleton, Master of the Stationers and Newspaper Makers company.

Nigel said: “I am delighted to hear that publishers have sold very well this year.  While many people are cutting back on discretionary spending, the calendar industry is still as healthy and buoyant as ever. The quality of design and the quality of printing is exceptional.  Printing is at the heart of what we do.”

A panel of 12 industry and retail experts, judged over 400 entries.  The award presentations were followed by a speech from special guest, businesswoman Ruth Badger, who spoke of her experiences on the hit TV show, The Apprentice.  Ruth shared her thoughts on the industry and her memories of designing a calendar for one of the tasks, which required help on production from Danilo and a pitch to the Calendar Club.

She said: “Since appearing on The Apprentice I now run a consultancy company to save businesses from going bust. What surprises and refreshes me about this industry is that it is not only surviving, but growing and competing.”
