Fresh new looks

FOR 2014, Me To You wedding cards have a fresh new look, combining vintage-inspired illustration with textured holographic foil to ensure that visually, the cards have immediate impact.
Captions have been carefully chosen to reflect the traditional sentiment that has helped it become such a bestseller, as Me To You brand manager Caroline Holford explained: “Tatty Teddy designs are cute and sometimes playful, but our captions steer away from humour or irreverence.
“The text on our wedding range is sincere without being too serious, focusing on traditional words and sentiment such as love, happiness and congratulations.
Typography – the way in which the words are visually represented – is also an important part of the design process. Text can be integral to the design, especially in cards where we incorporate a key phrase such as Mr & Mrs.”
Textured holographic foil, lace and diamante accents are central to the 2014 card range, ensuring a sophisticated high-end feel at affordable price points.
Classic Tatty Teddy is also represented in 3D for the first time this summer, in the adorable Mr & Mrs wedding card.
Part of the Carte Blanche Group, Wishing Well Studios have a skillfully-tuned ear for words and sentiment that has driven their success and produces several wedding collections including new hand-finished cards in the bestselling Fiesta range.
Creative director Nicky Harrison said: “On very special occasions such as weddings and golden anniversaries, friends and family are happy to pay more for an all-singing, all-dancing card.
“These occasions bring out our more sentimental side, so the text reflects this with captions which express feelings in an affectionate and open way.”
Hotchpotch Publishing are also part of the Carte Blanche Group and for 2014 the creative team have a fun and funky wedding range featuring an eclectic mix of designs from across their portfolio.
From the sophistication, femininity and charm of the hand-finished Bucks Fizz range to the quirky and witty illustrations of Pickle Parade, or the timeless imagery and heartfelt sentiment from Mandy Lynne to the contemporary, luxurious style with elegant flitter finishing of Gold Rush, there really is something for everyone in this beautiful collection.
Finally, Lello Design’s Emporium is a beautiful range of large-format handmade 1920s-inspired cards in shades of white, ivory and silver with glittering letters, shiny pearl buttons, clear gems and pretty ivory satin bows for detail.
The paper tip-ons on an embossed baroque patterned board with silver pearl envelope give an opulent and extravagant feel.

Pastel hues and whimsy

THE resurgence of letterpress printing – especially in the wedding stationery sector – is the reference for the Great British Card Company’s new project by in-house illustrator Carly Davies and lettering artist Mike Burgin. The colours were also chosen based on the most popular ones for wedding schemes. The mix contains both type and hand-lettered captions in litho and foil finishes complemented with a subtle use of embossing.
After attending weddings in 2013, they found it was fairly easy to produce designs that were relatable and on trend.
Realising the importance of a more personalised, hand-drawn look, most of the designs created were hand-rendered, coloured with soft pastel hues and finished with a more sentimental or whimsical approach to the editorial.
Key trends to emerge throughout the GBCC wedding and anniversary designs were pale pink, jade, ivory, and silver colour schemes and the use of hearts, churches, love birds and typography, with an overall emphasis on togetherness.

Marriage made in heaven

FOR Jonny Javelin, wedding and anniversary titles are a large and popular part of their portfolio, especially the anniversary cards.
They do the usual range of titles in this category and, whenever they develop a new range, the anniversary titles are usually some of the first captions on the list because of how well they sell.
The anniversary cards sell brilliantly throughout the year but, strangely enough, the wedding range is now more seasonal towards the summer.
Perhaps in the past, the summer time influence wasn't as important as it is now and couples were just as happy to get married in autumn, spring and winter.
They will be bringing out a new wedding package in the coming months with fresh designs to add to their existing popular Velvet range – a marriage made in heaven!
